Fumbled keys and dirty words Wipe the dew off the car and in the parking lot Mocking daybreak songs of some punk who’ve got the nerve Or maybe the worm But it’s easier to get things done Yeah it’s easier when you didn’t have last night I only lost it for a night ‘Cause thinking turned to knowing there must’ve been something going on Everyone tries for far to long Everyone leaves And when it’s raining and you’re drinking it’s still raining Don’t you know? It’s such a shame, such a shame that you went away I’m only drinking, only drinking when it’s raining From now on It’s such a shame, such a shame that you went away And as for last night I only lost it for a night ‘Cause thinking turned to knowing there must’ve been something going on Everyone tries for far to long Everyone leaves When it’s raining and you’re drinking it’s still raining Don’t you know? It’s such a shame, such a shame that you went away I’m only drinking, only drinking when it’s raining From now on It’s such a shame, such a shame that you went away

I got a one way ticket to a one horse town Where the roads ain’t steady and the lights are burned out I’m gonna ditch my troubles gonna find the sound of a lonely river, and lay low for awhile A silhouette, dancing in the corner on a long night I bet it’s pretty in the right light, but I can never really make it out See I don’t really care anymore I don’t think it’s fair anymore I have my doubts Knocked down, somewhere in the shadows of the pouring rain Well I can’t remember the sound, I can’t remember my name See I don’t really care anymore What the hell do I know anymore? With a ‘barely hanging on’, you turned around and said This is the same old story I already know It’s hard to tell now anymore but so it goes Laying down in the backseat crying saying good luck trying High fiving with bent back fingers Still missing the point after all these years of lying, saying good luck trying I don’t wanna spend my thirties on a bathroom floor I don’t wanna spend a dime on this shit anymore I don’t wanna break down alone No, I don’t wanna to break down alone I got a one way ticket to a one horse town Where the roads ain’t steady and the lights are burned out I’m gonna get you here get you here somehow Help you find a way, help you find a way This is the same old story I already know It’s hard to tell now anymore but so it goes Laying down in the backseat crying saying good luck trying High fiving with bent back fingers Still missing the point after all these years of lying, saying good luck trying

Every once in a while the calm will win out Every once in a while the fear ain’t so loud And I’m trying hard to figure this out Hell, I could run with you plenty But this is something more than I could handle You know you’re not the only tired and lonely rusty soul Now take me right back, take all that I have Now take me right back, there ain’t anymore left And I’m trying hard I’m trying so hard Hell, I could run with you plenty But this is something more than I could handle You know you’re not the only tired and lonely rusty soul Hope ain’t a constant, it’s just a timebomb ready to blow This ain’t a sign at all You think you’re dying, you got a long, long way to go This ain’t a sign at all Every once in a while the calm will win out Every once in a while the fear ain’t so loud What’s left there’s more to give and I’ll take up all the time Cause I’m better off without you, I’m too scared to live without you And I hope that this don’t bleed out the desire Cause everybody else gets broken and tired Every once in a while
4.
So lost and pretty She was drinks and a dress Backlit by the city She was cigarettes And when she took her hand in mine like an hour from the beach The sky looked kind of funny There were no people on the streets I guess we’re stumbling around in a hurricane So tell a lie Won’t you tell a lie? Got all the time to waste in the world Tell a lie Won’t you tell another lie? Got all the time to waste in the world Some people they blow around like a hurricane They’re all flashing smiles and pouring rain Break up those I-10 miles with a straight-line shot from the passing lange Oh throwing bottles in the sea Some real patchwork scenery Oh empty bottles, your cares, my believe They’re all floating in the sea Some people the blow around like a hurricane They’re all pouring eyes and crashing waves And on that bathroom stall, she offered it all and signed her name So lost and pretty She was drinks and a dress Backlit by the city She was cigarettes
5.
Buy me another round Top me off before I leave this town My hands ain’t steady now But I’m begging to leave I’m achin’ to be There’s a bar on the outside of town Where we used to wash our problems down Somewhere we can’t be found Somewhere you couldn’t even begin to place Oh you, you sure do got a lovely face I’ll hold my breath, I’ll keep it tight Whatever helps me sleep at night We all got different aches So buy me another round I’m slowly, coming down From a haunting, lonely sound I’m slowly, I’m figuring out That my hands ain’t that steady now I got twelve hundred dollars in my pocket And a hole to burn You’ve got empty hearts forgotten And some luck to learn Now I could see that leaving in your eyes That cold blank stare is no surprise So hold your breath, just keep it tight Whatever helps you sleep at night Now tell me something, what does it Take to come up with nothing We all got different aches So buy me another round, so buy me another round I’m begging to leave I’m aching to be I’m begging to leave I’m aching to be somewhere else Instead of here just sittin’ by myself
6.
So tell me now What’s the point of all of this? If you got something, a better option, I’m all ears Cause I can’t help I can’t help but thinking it’s been a long time Since I’ve held high any thoughts that don’t disappear There ain’t no time for second guessing Here we go again Life’s too short so we’ll be up until the morning Wondering what to do and where to begin And I’ll sleep when I’m clever Looks like I’ll be awake forever If this van keeps rolling as much as your eyes we’ll get home fine Cause we can’t wait long We’re gonna die in this place And I bet if we tried I still couldn’t hide the sadness on my face There just ain’t time for second guessing Here we go again Life’s too short so we’ll be up until the morning Wondering what to do and where to begin Closing down your bars Staring at the stars Giving new names to constellations And there’s always more Than we bargained for We are mostly still standing We’re still here We are still here And until then Here we go again
7.
Well it’s a great time to feel so alive Sitting on a bench just waiting to die Those last words are never enough And then something went wrong with us Well it’s imagining a direct flight back out east And the way your boots slip on ice-covered streets Spending all day waiting for a bus Then something went wrong with us Seems to me if you just keep on riding you won’t have to get off To be so fatally directional and still feel so lost Oh if I don’t care and you don’t care aren’t we just carrying on? And when it’s cold as hell it’s how you lend me your coat And it’s tired of this town, tired of growing old And I’ll be the car if you’ll be the rust And then something went wrong with us Seems to me if you just keep on riding you won’t have to get off To be so fatally directional and still feel so lost Oh if I don’t care and you don’t care aren’t we just carrying on? Well it’s counting on your fingers and moving to your toes The times you felt tired, the times you felt alone And every rest stop in all of Iowa Well something went wrong with us Well it’s a drawn out pause with nothing to say And then feeling like you might do better in L.A. Somehow those last words are never enough And then something went wrong with us

She said “can you focus on the snowy road?” So when we get to speed see we will not need them at all No matter where we have to go And from the passenger seat she grips the wheel with her fist And she pulls it towards and exit that doesn’t exist Sometimes you know you just try and do what’s best Oh for a Tuesday night And what you call us, it’s all the same We were Tennessee, Fitzgerald, Hemingway, and Kerouac, but what’s in a name? She said she’d buy us another round if we can drink it neat And she tilts her head to focus on her feet Sometimes you know life will bring you to your knees It was just another Tuesday night And oh you caught me kneeling For once in my life And oh, caught me believing That you were gone but still alive We were listing things we wouldn’t miss There were violent drives and long cold nights And that gap - the gap between Thanksgiving and Christmas Then she turns away and listens through the rain Fixating on the distant sound of trains Well pitter patter and howl and hum they all sound the same Oh, your last Tuesday night And it’s alright That oh you caught me kneeling For once in my life And oh, caught me believing That you were gone but still alive But you’re still alive Or was it just a lie? Was it just a lie?

I grew up without knowing what I’d amount to In the southern part of a northern town And I gave up trying to find the parts To hold myself together now Already nervous when you called This fumbling silence so crowded with vines on the walls This sinking in through the sidewalk cracks says it all Over my shoulder it ain’t getting any closer It ain’t worth all my worrying It’s a curse of getting older Let’s get lost, let’s get out Let’s drive forever with the windows down It’s out of my hands It’s out of my heart What’s left to wonder when you’re worlds apart Let’s give it up to second chances Let’s live like we’ve never had the answers Walking backwards all the time just to see what I’ve left behind We stay up late building up fires in our minds All my friends are four leaf clovers And they all said hey just come over Let’s get lost, let’s get out Let’s drive forever with the windows down It’s out of my hands It’s out of my heart What’s left to wonder when you’re worlds apart Let’s give it up to second chances Let’s live like we’ve never had the answers I’m just an old typewriter I’m just a sad failed actor Counting down on my fingers Until I can’t remember The last thing you told me We’d both be dead and lonely There was a time our sense burned Now that time is over
10.
Well I was trying to tie long distances to time And rolling down windows to breathe And still you close your eyes or point them at the sky And believe, and believe, and believe That the sun ain’t old Don’t got that old disease Did you fuck up your makeup When you were praying for yourself? Or did you toast to your savior, hatred, and good health? Well is it your sweet release, or something about the meek? Flying so high by denying gravity Still I’m trying to tie long distances to time And rolling down windows to breathe Well you can close your eyes or point them at the sky And believe, and believe, and believe Teach them all about burning And oh what is worse: The total destruction, or inheriting of the earth? In only six days of the week Still all this misery We’re so dead and brave in the land of the free Still I’m trying to tie long distances to time And rolling down windows to breathe Well you could close your eyes or point them at the sky And believe, and believe, and believe Believe, and believe, and believe That the sun ain’t old That the sun ain’t old And you’re not all alone in this world And the sun ain’t old That the sun ain’t old That the sun ain’t old And you’re not alone in this world And you’re not all alone

about

The Right Here turns a new page with their latest release, ‘Northern Town.’ Their fourth record is an anthem dedicated to the late nights we’ve all experienced. From reminiscing about the ones that got away (or for being better-off), feeling trapped, spending time with the best of souls at your favorite local haunt, and asking yourself, “what if?” ‘Northern Town’ explores a narrative to which we can all relate. The grit and wisdom gained since their previous release comes through in the melodies and lyrics from start to finish. Buy ‘em a round at their next tour stop, and they’ll return the favor.
